What is the Vortex Indicator?

The Vortex Indicator (VI) identifies trend direction using two oscillating lines that measure positive (VI+) and negative (VI-) price movement. It captures upward and downward trend strength separately.

Components

• VI+: Positive trend movement (green solid)
• VI-: Negative trend movement (red dashed)
• Range: Values typically 0 to 2

Interpretation

• Bullish: VI+ above VI- = Uptrend
• Bearish: VI+ below VI- = Downtrend
• Strong trend: Wider gap between lines

Trading Signals

• Buy: VI+ crosses above VI-
• Sell: VI- crosses above VI+
• Use with volume for confirmation
