What is KAMA?

Kaufman Adaptive Moving Average adapts its smoothing based on market volatility. It follows price closely in trending markets and smooths more during sideways/noisy periods.

Parameters (10, 2, 30)

  • 10 periods: Efficiency Ratio lookback
  • 2 (fast): Fastest EMA constant
  • 30 (slow): Slowest EMA constant

Interpretation

  • Bullish: Price above KAMA, rising slope
  • Bearish: Price below KAMA, falling slope
  • Neutral: Flat KAMA = ranging market

Trading Signals

  • Buy: Price crosses above KAMA
  • Sell: Price crosses below KAMA
  • Steeper slope = stronger trend
