What is HMA?

Hull Moving Average uses weighted moving averages to reduce lag while maintaining smoothness. It responds faster to price changes than traditional moving averages.

Parameters (20-period)

  • WMA periods: Half and full
  • Final smoothing: Square root of period
  • Lag reduction: Significantly reduced

Interpretation

  • Bullish: HMA rising, price above HMA
  • Bearish: HMA falling, price below HMA
  • Reversal: HMA slope changes direction

Trading Signals

  • Buy: HMA turns up from down
  • Sell: HMA turns down from up
  • Faster than SMA/EMA signals
