Average Directional Index — equity trend strength.

What is ADX?

  • ADX (dotted): Trend strength (0–100), not direction
  • +DI (solid): Buying pressure (0–100)
  • -DI (dashed): Selling pressure (0–100)

Trend Strength

  • ADX > 25: Strong trend — consider trend-following strategies
  • ADX < 20: Weak/no trend — market is ranging
  • ADX > 50: Very strong trend — high conviction directional move

Direction & Signals

  • +DI > -DI: Buyers dominating — bullish direction
  • -DI > +DI: Sellers dominating — bearish direction
  • ▲ Bullish crossover: +DI crosses above -DI — dashed green line (single ticker)
  • ▼ Bearish crossover: -DI crosses above +DI — dashed red line (single ticker)
