What is Parabolic SAR?

Parabolic SAR (Stop and Reverse) is a trend-following indicator developed by J. Welles Wilder Jr. It provides potential entry/exit points and acts as a trailing stop-loss level that accelerates toward price over time.

Parameters (0.02, 0.02, 0.2)

  • AF Start: 0.02 — initial acceleration factor
  • AF Step: 0.02 — acceleration increment per bar
  • AF Max: 0.2 — maximum acceleration factor

Visual Encoding

  • Green: Uptrend — SAR dots below price
  • Red: Downtrend — SAR dots above price
  • Shape & Fill: Sector identity

Trading Signals

  • Buy: SAR flips from above to below price
  • Sell: SAR flips from below to above price
  • SAR dots accelerate toward price — use as trailing stop
