DMI (Directional Movement)

Directional Movement Index (+DI / -DI).

What is DMI?

Directional Movement Index measures the strength of directional movement. +DI measures upward pressure, -DI measures downward pressure. Crossovers generate directional signals.

Parameters (14)

  • +DI (solid green): Positive directional movement
  • -DI (dashed red): Negative directional movement

Interpretation

  • +DI above -DI: Bullish zone — buying pressure dominates
  • -DI above +DI: Bearish zone — selling pressure dominates
  • Crossovers signal trend changes
  • Adjust zone opacity with the zone button in the toolbar
  • Data refreshes periodically — not real-time

Trading Signals

  • Buy: +DI crosses above -DI (bullish crossover)
  • Sell: -DI crosses above +DI (bearish crossover)
  • Pair with ADX to confirm trend strength

Price Overlay

  • Close Price: Daily closing price (right Y-axis)
  • +DI crossing above -DI while price rises = strong uptrend confirmation
  • -DI crossing above +DI while price falls = strong downtrend confirmation
  • DI crossover without price follow-through = potential false signal
